The point of a "secular" state is (supposedly) to promote personal (including religious) freedoms, neither to oppress them nor to officially promote atheism. Secularism (as advertised) is not about stripping people from their religions but about keeping these religions to themselves and to protect their freedom to practice them without oppression. Hijab ban violates the basic human rights. It's being used to deny Muslim women from education, employment, medical treatment and as a start point for a wide array of other racist policies.

For information about hijab ban in France and Europe, please visit Protest French Hijab Ban page.

i'm totally putting this in my journal!
i'm not a muslim, but i find the hijab ban entirely insane! it's another way for "western" people to oppress muslim women, objectify them, deny them their own decision-making, and attack muslim men/reiterate orientalist stereotypes. thanks for making this!

A beautiful piece!

I must say, I am a Christian myself, and an American. I have studied Islam for many years and feel a real closeness to the faith and to Muslims, whom I consider to be the brothers of Christians and Jews (not to be confused with any Zionist ideology).

The Muslim women have my full support in the wearing of the hijab. It is, after all, central for their faith. People in the West often think of the Hijab as something oppressive or negative, but I feel that a Muslim woman wants to wear it, she has every right to. Many Catholic women wear headcoverings as well, at least during Church services. This is a favorite.

agreed though many countries are putting a ban on women wearing it.
